Koala Bears

Welcome to Koala Bears

“If they can't learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn.” - DR. O. Ivar Lovaas

All about Koala Bears.

Class Teacher – Mrs Jackson

Teaching Assistants – Miss Gibson and Miss Garvey.

The Koala Bears class is one half of our Primary Specialist Resourced Provision Unit (PSRP) and provides children with a bespoke curriculum which has been developed to meet the needs of each individual pupil. Skills are taught through a topic based curriculum. The topics have been chosen by the children based on their personal interests. The classroom environment has been set up to include each of the continuous provision areas which encourage the children to learn through play. In class we have the following areas:

  • Construction area
  • Small world area
  • Fine motor and gross motor areas
  • Maths area
  • Mark making area
  • Music area
  • Messy area
  • Sand area
  • Water area

Class Dojo

We use Class Dojo to communicate information from class but also the wider school. Please check Dojo regularly as there may be some important information relevant to you. Throughout the week, we will update our class page to inform you what has been going on in class along with photographs and videos of your children enjoying school life.

Please note that Dojo messages will only be received during the hours of 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday, so please don't worry if you don't receive an immediate response.

P.E.

P.E. will be take place on Friday mornings this year and will be taught by Mr Ellison, Miss Gibson, Miss Rickard and Miss Garvey.  The children may come to school already dressed in their PE t-shirt and shorts. As the weather becomes colder, they may wear plain black or grey joggers and their school jumper / cardigan over their P.E. t-shirt.  Alternatively, long sleeved P.E. tops are now available from Grays should you wish to purchase one for your child. Children will need to wear black trainers or pumps during the P.E. session.

Uniform

Just a reminder at the start of the school year, that all items of uniform must be labelled with your child's name in order to avoid misplaced items.  Children do, at times, need to take their jumpers off in class, and clothing can quickly become lost or mixed up if it isn't labelled. Please could a spare set of uniform be sent into school. This can be sent in each day or kept in school until it is needed.

Drop off

Children should be dropped off at either gate on Lynwood Avenue or St Alban's at 8:50am and enter school through the closest entrance (unless they travel on transport). Children should be in class no later than 9am. Anyone arriving after 9am will need to sign in at the school office.

Collection

All children should be collected from the playground (unless your child is being collected by the transport). Your child will be allowed to leave the Polar Bears classroom once a known adult has been seen by the member of staff dismissing the children. Collection is now 3:30.

Curriculum

We are currently working closely with the team from Crosshill to further develop our curriculum. This is in the final stages, we look forward to sharing our long-term plans with you soon.
