PE Intent

At St. Cuthbert’s CE Primary School, we pride ourselves in creating a passion for Physical Education and Sport. We hope to encourage and incorporate a culture of love for PE and immerse the children in a rich environment to develop, experiment, and enjoy Physical Education without limits. We hope to challenge, extend, and include all individuals despite the characteristics or considered limitations some children may be seen to hold. Physical Education at St. Cuthbert’s is about inclusion in all areas, and a way of achieving this, is by equipping children with the necessary skills and values to develop fantastic sportsmanship.

By promoting, Physical Education continuously in the children’s day to day lives, the children at our school will accumulate an ongoing routine and passion for sport which they will hopefully continue into their later lives. We aim to provide at least 2 hours of fun, exciting and active PE lessons every week. Each day is an active day, with at least 30minutes of physical activity, but physical education does not just stop there; We educate our children on a healthy balanced diet and lifestyle in order to tackle growing numbers of obesity and health related issues.  We hope for our children to develop a greater confidence in teamwork and to learn to win and lose with grace and sportsmanship. The resilience developed and the decision-making opportunities provided can then be applied to all areas of the curriculum and wider life. Therefore, we strive to provide as many opportunities as possible to compete in competitions during school time or by representing the school a local event.

It is also of paramount importance that we create sporting leaders that inspire and excel during their time at St. Cuthbert’s and their extended life’s. We want our children to be global citizens and advocates promoting an inclusion in the sport. We aim to offer lots of children the opportunity to lead sporting opportunities, organise games, events and learn to lead by example and respond to pupils’ voices in shaping our PE curriculum. By emphasising on leadership, we hope children learn the importance of communication, organisation, teamwork, resilience, perseverance and a respect for rules.  PE and Sport is a highly valued part of our school and we hope this continues to flourish and frown as we prepare our children for life after our school.
