Spanish Intent
At St. Cuthbert’s, introducing children to a foreign language at an early age is a key part of being a member of a multi-cultural society. We celebrate the similarities and differences of other cultures and this fosters children’s curiosity on their language learning journey to deepen their understanding of the global world. These are skills that will give them the confidence for future learning in Spanish and ultimately encourage them to learn other languages in our diverse society.
Our Aim
Our aim is to ensure that all pupils:
• Understand and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources
• Speak with increasing confidence, fluency and spontaneity, finding ways of communicating what they want to say, including through discussion and asking questions, and continually improving the accuracy of their pronunciation and intonation
• Can write at varying length, for different purposes and audiences, using the variety of grammatical structures that they have learnt
• Discover and develop an appreciation of a range of authentic writing in the language studied.
