Welcome to Year 5
We hope you've all had a wonderful summer and you're looking forward to a great year in Year 5.
This year we will visit exciting topics such as; World War II, India, Digital Citizenship, Ancient Greece and Stargazers.
Reading is extremely important and it is expected that Year 5 pupils read regularly. Reading books will be changed daily as long as reading records have been signed to show that the pupil has read. Points will be allocated weekly and collated as a class for the school reading race.
Spellings and Times Tables
Weekly spellings will be given for children to practise and learn throughout the week. The spelling sheet does not need to be returned to school as progress will be measured through spelling tests/
Times tables will be taught and practised in class throughout the year. As children learn to recite times tables at different rates they will be given a set of multiplication facts to learn based on their prior knowledge. They will practise these until they are confident in recalling the facts forwards, backwards and in a mixed up order. Short weekly checks will be done in class to keep track of their progress.
Maths and English
One piece of Maths or English homework will be set of a Friday and will be due back the following Wednesday, at the very latest. Children are more than welcome to hand their homework in earlier. Either myself, Mrs Birch or Mr Parsonage will be happy to help during the school day with any homework difficulties on either a Monday or Tuesday.
Pupils in Year 5 will use ClassDojo regularly to show off their successes in class.
ClassDojo is an amazing tool which allows children to share their achievements with those who are most important. It can be accessed via the internet at www.classdojo.com or by downloading the app.
You should already be connected to ClassDojo from Year 4. Please drop me a message below if you are struggling to access the resource and I will do my best to rectify any issues.
