Welcome back Year 4!
We hope you have had a fantastic Easter and are looking forward to your final term in Year 4.
South America and The Aztecs
Our Summer term topics are South America and The Aztecs. The focus of Summer 1 will be geography. We will be learning all about the countries, culture and climate of the fascinating continent of South America. We will learn about the industries and people of South America and compare how life there is different with life here in the UK. We will complete a case study on the vibrant country of Brazil, as well as creating travel guides for the Amazon Rainforest. We will also be creating colourful collages in our art lessons.
Summer 2 will have a history focus as we are learning all about The Aztecs. We will look at when and where the Aztecs lived, how they lived their lives and how their empire was defeated. Furthermore, we will look at the origin of chocolate and how it has evolved over time in order to design and create our own chocolate bars in DT.
Our Science topic throughout this term will be living things and their habitats, which links very nicely with our whole school zoo trip in June.
Take a look at the Year 4 Autumn Term topic overview at the bottom of this page for information on this terms topics.
In Year 4 we have P.E on Tuesdays and Fridays. Could I please ask that children have their full, clearly labelled P.E kit in school on these days.
Reading is very important and children are expected to read regularly in Year 4. Reading books will be changed daily as long as reading records have been signed to say that your child has read. Children should bring their reading book to school everyday even if they have not read the previous night. Points will also be collected for our whole school reading challenge in which a class has the chance to win a big mystery prize at the end of the half term.
Spellings will be given out on Fridays and they should be practised and learnt for a spelling test the following Friday. The spelling sheet does not need to be returned to school.
Homework will be given out every Friday and will be collected in by the following Wednesday at the latest. This will usually consist of a Maths or English activity. Towards the end of each term a homework grid will be set which will include lots of different activities such as research, writing and art based tasks linked to the topic we have covered that term.
