In Year 4 we will visit many exciting topics throughout the course of the year such as The Romans,  a study of Lancashire, Earthquakes and Volcanoes and South America and the Aztecs. We are also very lucky to be going on an overnight residential to Malham Tarn for some field study work during the Autumn term.

Summer Term Topic

Our summer term topics are South America and The Aztecs. The focus of the first half of the term will be geography. We will be learning all about the countries, culture and geography of the fascinating continent of South America. We will learn about the climate, geographical features, industries and people of South America and compare how life there is different with life here in the UK.  We will be creating South American collages in our Art lessons.

The second half of the term will have a history focus as we will be learning all about the Aztecs. We will look at when and where the Aztecs lived, how they lived their lives and how their empire was defeated. We will also learn about the origin of chocolate and how it has evolved over time. In our DT lessons we will be designing and making our own chocolate bars. Our Science topic throughout the whole of the term will be living things and their habitats. Take a look at the Year 4 Topic Overview on our class page for more information on this half terms topics.

In Year 4 we have P.E on Mondays and Fridays. Could I please ask that children have their full P.E kit in school on these days.

Homework will be given out every Friday and will be collected in by the following Wednesday at the latest. This will usually consist of spellings and either an English or Maths activity.

Children are encouraged to read as often as possible and will take a reading book home each day. Reading books will be changed daily as long as reading records have been signed to say that your child has read. Children should bring their reading book to school every day even if they have not read the previous night. Points will also be collected for our whole school reading challenge in which a class has the chance to win a big mystery prize at the end of the half term.
