"The beautiful thing about learning is no one can take it away from you."
I hope you have had a lovely summer break and are ready for the exciting challenges that this year will bring. We will be visiting many interesting topics such as Dinosaurs, Festivals, The Great Fire of London, Africa, The Seaside and Pirates!
The staff working in Year 2 this year are Miss Fletcher (Class Teacher) and Mrs Valentine (Teaching Assistant).
As part of our topic on festivals we will need to do some looking back into the past. We will use a variety of sources to talk about different festivals such as Halloween, Bonfire Night, Diwali, Hanukkah, Eid and Christmas. We will end our festivals topic by preparing for our class assembly about how Christmas is celebrated around the world.
This year our P.E lessons will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Could I please ask that children have their full, clearly labelled P.E kit in school on these days. In addition to our two P.E lessons a week, we will be continuing participate in the daily mile (weather permitting).
Reading is very important and all children should be reading regularly. Reading books can be changed as long as the reading record has been signed to say that your child has read. We expect your child to read at least three times a week. Points will also be collected for our whole school reading challenge in which a class has the chance to win a big mystery prize at the end of the half term.
Spellings will be given out every Friday and they should be practised and learnt for a spelling test the following Friday. The spelling sheet does not need to be returned to school and should be kept at home to practice. Times tables homework will also be given out on a Friday and children have until the following Thursday to complete and return it. In the second half of each term, a homework grid will be set which will include lots of different activities linked to the topic we are covering in class.
Should you have any questions or concerns please send me a message via ClassDojo or below, catch me on the yard or contact school to arrange an appointment at a convenient time. I am very much looking forward to working with you and your children in the year ahead.
Thank you in advance for all of your support
