Lancashire Week

As part of the current National Curriculum schools are required to actively promote fundamental British values in schools and with this in mind we have decided to hold a ‘special Lancashire themed week’.

The county of Lancashire was instrumental in helping to shape modern day democracy. In 1295 the first elected representatives from Lancashire were called to Westminster by King Edward I to attend what later became known as, ‘The Model Parliament’.

We have lots of exciting events planned in school over the week including a visit from the Mayor of Darwen, the Town Crier and a local clog dancer who will complete a workshop with each class.

Friday 27th November is ‘Lancashire Day’ and as a finale to our week’s fun activities we intend to host a ‘traditional Lancashire dress up day’. In addition, parents, carers, grandparents, etc. are also invited to come into their child’s class for the last hour of the day on Friday 27th November 2.15pm – 3.15pm to see what learning has taken place throughout the week.
