Click on the tree to see what fantastic things we have been up to in Year 5.
In Year 5 learning is both challenging and fun where we visit many exciting topics throughout the course of the year. Some topics we will cover this year include India and the village of Chembakolli, The Alps, World War 2, America and Ancient Greece.
As part of our Science topic 'Life Cycles' we will be taking a trip to Blackpool Zoo. As part of our day we will be meeting some of the animals up close and finding out what their life cycle looks like from the zoo keepers who work there.
Our topics for Summer Term are Lights, Camera, Action and Ancient Greece. We will be looking at the country of America and looking at all of the states that make it up. We will then be focusing in on American life and food before we then look at Hollywood. We will be looking back at some of the Hollywood greats and having a go at making our own Hollywood star. We will then move onto looking at modern day and ancient Greece. We will look at key figures and events from the past and look at what life was like all of those years ago.
We have PE in Year 5 on Tuesday and Friday and as such I am asking that all children keep a PE kit in school for these sessions with each item of clothing labelled with a name.
Reading books are changed daily as long as the reading record has been signed to say that your child has read. Points will also be collected for our whole school reading challenge in which a class has the chance to win a big mystery prize at the end of the half term.
Homework is given out every Friday and children have until the following Thursday to complete and return it. Children will be given either English or Maths homework in their homework book as well as some spellings to practice and learn over the week. This spelling sheet does not need to be returned to school. Homework is an essential part of learning and builds on what the children have been doing in the classroom.
Alongside reading and homework there are lots of things you can do to help your child with their learning at home. Some useful websites that your child could visit are listed below:
In Year 5 I have an open door policy and should you have any queries or concerns please feel free to pop in at the end of the day, catch me on the yard, send me a message below or ring to arrange an appointment at a convenient time. All of the contact details can be found by clicking on the image below.
I would also like to give parents the opportunity to come into school and help out with their child's learning and the learning of others in our class. I am always on the look out for parents who would be interested in coming into school to do some reading with the children during the afternoon. If this is something you would be interested in send me a message using the table below.
Thank you in advance for all of your support.
