Welcome back Year 4!
We hope you have had a fantastic summer and are looking forward to an exciting year.
This year we will visit many interesting topics such as The Romans, Earthquakes and Volcanoes, South America and The Aztecs. We are also very lucky to be going on an overnight residential to Malham Tarn for some field study work in November.
Our Autumn term topic is The Romans. We will be looking at when it all began and where the Romans came from. We will look at what life was like as a Roman and compare it to what life is like for us today. We will look at why they invaded Britain, who led their invasions and who stopped them. We will also look at what changes they made to life that are still with us today. Take a look at the Year 4 Autumn Term topic overview at the bottom of this page for information on this terms topics.
In Year 4 we have P.E on Tuesdays and Fridays. Could I please ask that children have their full, clearly labelled P.E kit in school on these days.
Reading is very important and children are expected to read regularly in Year 4. Reading books will be changed daily as long as reading records have been signed to say that your child has read. Children should bring their reading book to school everyday even if they have not read the previous night. Points will also be collected for our whole school reading challenge in which a class has the chance to win a big mystery prize at the end of the half term.
Spellings will be given out on Fridays and they should be practised and learnt for a spelling test the following Friday. The spelling sheet does not need to be returned to school.
Homework will be given out every Friday and will be collected in by the following Wednesday at the latest. This will usually consist of a Maths or English activity. Towards the end of each term a homework grid will be set which will include lots of different activities such as research, writing and art based tasks linked to the topic we have covered that term.
