Welcome back Year 3/4 F!
We hope you have had a fantastic summer and are feeling refreshed and ready to learn. We will be visiting many exciting topics throughout the year, such as The Romans, The Aztecs, Angry Earth and South America. We are also very lucky to be going on an overnight residential to Malham Tarn in the Autumn Term. Take a look at our Topic Overview at the bottom of the class page for more information on this terms topics.
Miss Fletcher Mrs Birch
Our topic during Autumn 1 will be The Romans. We will look at where the Romans came from and how their empire grew to be one of the biggest the world has ever known. We will learn about Julius Caesar, Emperor Claudius and Queen Boudicca and the roles they played during the Roman invasion of Britain. Furthermore, we will understand what made the Roman army so successful and the changes they made to life that are still with us today.
During Autumn 2 we will be learning all about The Aztecs. We will learn about when and where the Aztecs lived, how they lived their lives and how their empire was defeated. We will look at their impressive city, Tenochtitlan, and the importance of Aztec Gods. Moreover, we will look at the origin of chocolate and how it has evolved over time in order to design and create our own chocolate bars in DT.
This year our P.E lessons will be on Mondays and Fridays, both of which will be taught by me. Could I please ask that children have their full, clearly labelled P.E kit in school on these days. In addition to our two P.E lessons a week, we will be continuing to participate in the daily mile (weather permitting).
Reading is very important and children are expected to read regularly. Reading books can be changed as long as reading records have been signed to say that your child has read and completed the book. As your child is in KS2, it is their own responsibility to make sure they change their home reading book. Children should bring their reading book to school everyday even if they have not read the previous night. Points will also be collected for our whole school reading challenge in which a class has the chance to win a big mystery prize at the end of the half term.
Spellings will be given out on Fridays and they should be practised and learnt for a spelling test the following Friday. The spelling sheet does not need to be returned to school. Homework will be given out every Friday and will be collected in by the following Wednesday at the latest. This will usually consist of a Maths or English activity. Smilies will be given for homework that is returned before Wednesday. In the second half of each term, a homework grid will be set, alongside spellings, which will include lots of different activities such as research, writing and art based tasks linked to the topic we will be covering.
