Welcome to Year 3
I'm pleased to say the children have had a well deserved break and have returned to school ready for the last half term of the year!
Below you will find useful class information which I will update on a regular basis. If you have any questions or queries, please feel free to come into school to meet with me, complete the 'contact me' form at the bottom of this page, or you will find me on the playground every afternoon after school.
If your child has a water bottle at home, please send it into school. The bottles will be emptied at the end of each day and refilled in the morning. Also, please discourage children from bringing personal items into school such as erasers and sharpeners as these can be lost or broken: the children have been provided with all of the stationary and equipment they need for use in class.
PE is every Wednesday and Friday. If your child leaves their PE kit in school we will send it home every half term to be washed.
Your child will continue to take home a reading book each day, this is to supplement the reading they do in school. It is very important that you support your child by listening to them read daily. The reading record book should be filled in each time your child reads, recording what, and how well they have read to you (the book does not have to be read fully before the reading record is signed). This is a good means of communication between school and home and will also help staff to monitor your child’s progress and the books that they are reading. Children should bring their reading book to school every day even though they may not have read the previous night.
In addition to reading, Maths and English homework will be sent home every week on a Friday (due back the following Thursday). Please encourage your child to complete each task as the work consolidates work completed in class and gives us the opportunity to check how well work is understood. Please ensure that the work is recorded neatly in pencil, headings and dates underlined and pencil crayons used for colouring. I will send home extra homework if I feel there is something the children need more practise with at home; this is not compulsory but it will benefit your child.
Topic and Science
In our topic work this half term we will be looking at Ancient Egypt. We will be studying the location (in time and place) as well as making our very own sarcophagi to bury our mummies. We will be studying the mummification process and writing a set of instructions for an embalmer.
In science we will be studying light. The children will learn what a light source is, how light travels and how shadows are formed.
